THE OG’S – THE VETERANS WHO HAVE BEEN PAVING THE WAY FROM DAY ONE
MAYOWA ADEGOKE

I’m Mayowa Adegoke, an international journalist with over a decade of experience in TV broadcasting and a diverse skill set in media production. I’m also a speaker, emcee, and moderator for high-profile meetings worldwide.
When I’m not in the studio or on stage, I coach corporate leaders in public speaking and personal branding, helping them amplify their executive presence and elevate their public profiles.
I’m proudly Nigerian and Yoruba and have lived in Dubai for over five years.
What inspired you to start your business in the Middle East, and what was your journey like getting started?
Moving to Dubai marked the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey. Leaving Lagos meant saying goodbye to the traditional 9-to-5, but in the media world, work is a constant—you’re always on the clock when duty calls.
I transitioned to freelancing, and soon, the need to increase my income pushed me to explore the business opportunities around me. Getting started was exciting because I landed a contract before I even officially had a business. That part was easy. However, sustaining a business, replicating success, and building a solid structure—phew!—those were the real challenges. It’s an ongoing journey of understanding my strengths and refining a business model that truly works.
What’s your business and what’s unique about it?
I’m in the communications, media, and events business. Archgoke Interactive, a boutique firm, serves as a bridge between Africa, the UAE, and the global market. We’ve observed how Dubai’s international appeal can facilitate the world’s growing interest in Africa.
In our experience, people often just need a trusted partner to help them execute their business vision. With my years in the media as a known and respected voice, along with a team of strategic thinkers and executors, our company is the go-to resource for connecting the dots.
“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” – Mayowa Adegoke
What motivates you?
The drive to turn the intangible into something tangible—bringing ideas to life, transforming potential into possibility. I’m passionate about expressing one’s divine nature in a way that serves the world in a visible and impactful manner.
What strategies have helped you succeed and grow your business in the Middle East?
Networking has been an invaluable tool for us. We’ve also learned the importance of product-market fit—offering tailored solutions to the right clients by addressing their specific needs first.
From one founder to another, please share some words of encouragement, wisdom, inspiration for a business owner who’s just starting out or who’s afraid to start.
Starting a business is a commitment to personal growth. Nothing pushes you to evolve like building a business. The more willing you are to grow as an individual, the stronger your business will become.
What can people look forward to from you in 2025?
A lot! I’m finally launching a speaker program designed for leaders without borders—The Elite Speakers Collective is something to watch out for. Additionally, my upcoming video course on personal branding will demystify the concept and provide a practical roadmap for ANYONE looking to get started on their journey.

What inspired you to start your business in the Middle East?
I came to the Middle East as a professional working in the financial services. At the point I rolled off one banking role, I was keen to explore self-employment, which I figured would allow me to work on projects and initiatives I am passionate about.
I consider the UAE a perfect jurisdiction for people with an entrepreneurial spirit. Not only does one have great proximity to a host of international markets for cross-border activity, but it serves as a confluence of cultures.
You get to learn what works well, what appeals to people of different nationalities, and how best to position yourself in this microcosm of the globe. In short, market research is great from the UAE. There is also the added benefit of everything working really well. You can tell I am a fan of this country!
What was your journey like getting started?
Bumpy. Daunting. Fun. Empowering.
We read stories about the journey of business ownership, and we hear accounts of its highs and lows. Nothing quite prepares you for setting off on your own. It is daunting at times, it requires you to tap into skill sets that are either dormant or absent, but it also prepares you for a resilience that cannot be replicated by the proverbial security blanket that comes with a corporate job.
My journey has made me realise just how much I took for granted working for leading international firms. Like many entrepreneurs I know hailing from corporate, there is a mental oscillation between running one’s business and returning to corporate. I keep concluding that one must make the best decision for their personal circumstances.
Being a business owner requires a different mindset—you eat what you hunt. It demands intentional leadership because relationships matter, and it calls for meaningful connections since your network is quite literally a source of wealth. It’s rewarding when things go as planned and frustrating when they don’t. But overall, this journey has been an incredible path to self-actualization in more ways than I can fully articulate.
The most important conversations you will ever have in life are the ones you have with yourself.” – Mucha Hazel Nyandoro
What is your business?
Manelith is a boutique Project Management, Marketing, PR, and Communications firm primarily focused on frontier markets.
Through the Professional Tribes platform, my work revolves around strategic communications—driving dialogue at global and high-profile events, hosting TalkShops with a multi-sector and intergenerational community, and capacity-building initiatives. I also work with corporate leaders to enhance their executive presence and leadership skills.
Our sessions focus on helping individuals build their personal and collective brands. We collaborate with renowned corporations to lead key events, executive development programs, and workshops. Some of our core training modules include public speaking and media training, leading with confidence, managing team dynamics, ethics, and compliance, amongst others in the suite.
What’s unique about Manelith?
There is something special to me about being the first African-led entity (that I know of) offering this unique service in the UAE. Having served the UAE market for 20 years—13 of them as a resident—I have an in-depth understanding of this region and have built a network I am incredibly proud of.
Our services are delivered by highly accomplished professionals with a strong track record in this market. We are also known for bringing a fun and engaging approach to all we do. At this stage, my business brand is still heavily intertwined with my personal brand—much to the dismay of my PR gurus! But I am actively working to create that distinction.
Meanwhile, my business has given me the privilege of driving dialogue and presenting on large global stages such as the Dubai Expo and prominent industry events such as ADIPEC, the World Utilities Congress, Africa Oil Week, and the CANEX WKND. I have been able to intricately tailor my discourse by discerning my client’s goals for any event and have an ability to weave technical content with grace and a sense of humour. This resonates profoundly with my clients and global audience.
There are a lot of social networks out there, playing an important role in the work-life balance. We have chosen our lane which is to connect quality professionals over work enhancing activations, to create meaningful business focussed networks, and to provide professional development to our Professional Tribes members.
What strategies have helped you succeed and grow your business in the Middle East?
There’s still so much growth ahead—I feel like I’ve only just scratched the surface! However, I believe the key elements that have helped me so far are balance, consistency, and agility. Every step in this journey is significant, so I celebrate wins—both big and small—with the same intensity.
From one business owner to another, please share some words of encouragement, wisdom, inspiration for a business owner who’s just starting out or who’s afraid to start.
Quickly work on your confidence to venture into the unknown and become comfortable with the discomfort of not having many things figured out. Invest in your personal and professional development and ensure that you analyse your network and spend the little time you have to nurture relationships that add actual value to you and your business.
What can people look forward to from you in 2025?
Professional Tribes, Professional Tribes, and more Professional Tribes! I am beyond excited to see this platform grow, along with the incredible professionals who are part of it.
In this season of our TalkShops, we are delving into conversations scarcely broached within the traditional confines of our workplaces, or indeed, any local settings I am aware of that serve to convene different generations from various cultures to talk about things that are critical for them to thrive as expats or in expat-led organisations.
We also have a pipeline of professional development and executive presence sessions lined up throughout the year. Our social media pages are worth following – mainly LinkedIn and Instagram as this is where you get a good idea who in our Tribe you may benefit from connecting with.
I have also seen a growth in our international clients seeking support with their executive presence and confidence. So, there will be more to come of supporting leaders from across the globe.
Finally, commanding big stages. This year’s pipeline is exciting for me. Last year I worked across Africa, Asia and the Middle East. This year you will see me presenting at a range of international conferences. The diversity of sectors is wide too – energy, finance, fashion, technology and more.

ERIC DEINE

My name is Eric, and I am a proud Cameroonian entrepreneur who’s been calling Dubai home since 2018. Originally from Bamenda in Cameroon, I moved here driven by hope, vision, and necessity due to the escalating civil war back home.
What inspired you to start your business in the Middle East, and what was your journey like getting started?
I came to Dubai out of both necessity and inspiration. The civil war in Cameroon threatened my safety and the future of my family, pushing me to seek refuge elsewhere. However, I didn’t just choose Dubai for security, I was deeply inspired by its stunning cityscapes and incredible natural lighting, perfect for photography.
Starting out wasn’t easy. I lived in a cramped bed space with twelve others, editing pictures while sitting awkwardly on a bunk bed—or even at the entrance of a toilet, surrounded by fumes and harsh conditions.
Despite these struggles, I persevered. My passion for photography kept me going, and every challenge only sharpened my resolve, making every breakthrough even sweeter.
What’s your business and what’s unique about it?
I specialize in photography and videography, focusing on pre-birthday shoots, lifestyle, fashion, and celebrity events.
What sets my work apart is the authenticity and personal storytelling infused into every project. My clients aren’t just getting a photographer. They’re getting a storyteller who genuinely cares about capturing meaningful, transformative moments that reflect their personal journey with depth and relatability.
“Every obstacle faced is an opportunity to craft a stronger, wiser, and more resilient you. Embrace the challenge, it’s shaping your success story.” – Eric
What motivates you?
Family is my deepest motivation. My wife and kids remind me daily of why I started and why I must continue pushing forward. They’ve stood by me through every challenge and triumph, making my journey richer and more meaningful. Additionally, the incredible trust and support from my clients inspire me to continually refine my craft.
What strategies have helped you succeed and grow your business in the Middle East?
Networking – Forming authentic relationships has opened doors I never imagined.
Social Media – Consistently showcasing my work and actively engaging with the community has been a game-changer.
Adaptability & Resilience – Dubai’s market is competitive, and learning from challenges while staying adaptable has allowed me to continuously grow.
From one business owner to another, please share some words of encouragement, wisdom, inspiration for a business owner who’s just starting out or who’s afraid to start.
Never underestimate the power of small beginnings. Your current struggles, as overwhelming as they may seem, are the foundation of your future strength and success. ON THE RISE – SHINING STARS WHO ARE A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH
STEPHANIE WHYTE

My name is Stephanie, and I’m a proud Ghanaian who has been living in Dubai since 2018.
My journey in the UAE has been nothing short of an adventure. When I first moved here, I was newly married and six months pregnant. After having my son, we briefly moved back home in 2019. Just as we were preparing to return to Dubai, the world went into lockdown. Finally, in January 2021, we made our way back.
A few years later, I went through a divorce—a life-altering experience that completely shook my world. For a long time, I was a full-time stay-at-home mom, fully dedicated to raising my family. But in 2024, I took a bold step forward and launched Life in Dxb, a thriving community for expats. I turned a challenging chapter of my life into an opportunity to connect, support, and inspire others navigating life in Dubai.
What inspired you to start your business in the Middle East, and what was your journey like getting started?
Honestly, I never planned to start a community. It all began when my friend Amna, whom I met through another community, saw something in me that I hadn’t yet recognized in myself. She believed I should start my own platform, and with her encouragement, Life in Dxb was born.
Fast forward a little over a year, and what started as a simple idea has blossomed into a thriving space where expats in Dubai find friendship, love, and business support.
“She believed she could, so she did.” – Stephanie Whyte
What’s your business and what’s unique about it?
It’s the personal touch I bring to it. I’ve always been a people person—someone who naturally helps, listens, and serves. That energy has shaped Life in Dxb into more than just a community; it’s a home away from home for expats looking for genuine connections.
What motivates you?
My biggest motivation is leaving a positive impact on everyone I meet. I want people to feel seen, heard, and valued. Of course, my kids are also a huge driving force. They push me to be a better version of myself every single day.
What strategies have helped you succeed and grow your business in the Middle East?
Being hands-on. As the founder, I’m actively involved in the little details that made Life in Dxb special. I ensure that my members feel genuinely connected and supported.
My golden rule in business? Treat people the way you’d want to be treated. Respect, courtesy, and care go a long way in building meaningful relationships.
From one founder to another, please share some words of encouragement, wisdom, inspiration for a founder who’s just starting out or afraid to start.
Start scared, but start anyway. Growth happens when you push past fear. Don’t wait for the perfect moment—just take the first step, and trust that everything will fall into place.
What can people look forward to from you in 2025?
Bigger and better social events! More opportunities for expats to network, build friendships, find love, and grow their businesses. Life in Dxb is only getting started!

SIMBIAT ABIKE OLADIPUPO

My name is Simbiat Abike Oladipupo, a proud Nigerian entrepreneur deeply rooted in the vibrant Yoruba culture of Western Nigeria.
I moved to Dubai five years ago, right after the COVID lockdown, ready to start a new chapter and build something extraordinary.
What inspired you to start your business in the Middle East, and what was your journey like getting started?
When I first moved to Dubai, I envisioned working full-time as an accountant while running a business on the side. However, the job offers I received didn’t align with the life I wanted, which led me to rethink my path.
Dubai is a global hub, attracting people from all over the world. As a Nigerian makeup artist already skilled in my craft, I began offering makeup services—and the reactions were priceless. My clients were amazed at how flawless yet natural their makeup looked in real life.
That was my lightbulb moment.
I researched how to connect with more clients in the UAE and discovered the power of Instagram and SEO. Once I saw the potential, I knew it was time to go all in. That decision changed everything, making me a full-time makeup artist.
What’s your business and what’s unique about it?
I help women show up as their most confident selves. I’m a makeup artist, beauty educator. I created the Time-Saver Makeup Technique, because I believe my work goes beyond just applying makeup.
I create tailored, high-quality experiences designed to match each client’s unique preferences.
It’s all in the details and the vibes—but most importantly, it’s about how my clients feel when they look in the mirror. That moment when they light up? It never gets old—it’s everything.
Beyond working with clients, I love mentoring aspiring makeup artists. Seeing my students transform into beauty business owners from different parts of the world has been an incredible journey.
And then there’s the Time-Saver Makeup Technique, a game-changer for women with busy schedules. I teach women how to achieve a flawless look in just 5, 10, or 20 minutes, depending on how much time they have in the morning. Because beauty should be effortless, not time-consuming.
What motivates you?
What truly motivates me is the opportunity to transform lives through beauty.
I live for those moments when my clients see themselves in a new light—when they smile with newfound confidence and feel empowered.
Makeup isn’t just about the art for me—it’s about elevating others. That is what fuels my passion and purpose every single day.
Beyond that, I’m motivated by the power of choice. Knowing that I have the ability to create the life I envision through my decisions drives me forward. Every day is an opportunity to build a life filled with freedom, success, and fulfillment—and that keeps me pushing for bigger and better things.
“The best way to predict your future is to create it.” – Simbiat Abike Oladipupo
What strategies have helped you succeed and grow your business in the UAE/Middle East?
Social Media is Everything!
Most of my clients, collaborators, and even friends came through social media or referrals from someone I met online.
When I first moved here, I had to be intentional about putting myself out there—posting consistently, using smart hashtags, and reaching out to people. Sure, I faced some “no’s,” but when the “yes’s” start rolling in? That’s when the magic happens. Those connections can change your business forever.
Excellence, Every Single Time.
Whether it’s a paid client or a collaboration, I bring my A-game—always. Every face I touch, every experience I create, has to be top-tier. Happy clients bring more clients, and that’s how I’ve been able to grow consistently.
Mindset is Everything.
I don’t operate with doubt—I move with certainty. I believe that anything I put my hands on will excel, and that belief fuels my actions every day. Growth, excellence, and positivity are my secret weapons.
From one business owner to another, please share some words of encouragement, wisdom, inspiration for a business owner who’s just starting out or who’s afraid to start.
You have more power over your life than you realize. That burning desire in your heart? It’s there for a reason. If you feel called to start something, don’t overthink it—just start.
Business, like life, is a journey of continuous learning. You won’t know everything from the start, but the magic is in the doing. Taking action is what creates growth.
Stay focused—really focused—because that’s what drowns out the outside noise.
Surround yourself with the right people—learn from them, network, and stay open-minded.
Celebrate every win—big or small. Every step forward matters.
Start now, start messy, but just start. You’ll be amazed at how far you can go.
What can people look forward to from you in 2025?
We level up in 2025!
The Time-Saver Makeup Technique is getting its own book! Now, more women can learn how to achieve flawless makeup in minutes—with zero stress and no guesswork.
Bigger & Better Makeup Workshops! Teaching even more women how to master their own daily makeup routines with ease.

HALIMA HUSSEIN

Hi, I’m Halima, a Kenyan entrepreneur and founder of Marketing in Color, a global influencer marketing agency. My background is in influencer marketing, having worked with global brands across the UK, Europe, and the U.S.
What inspired you to start your business in the Middle East, and what was your journey like getting started?
Marketing in Color is a global agency predominantly working with clients in UK/USA markets and in the UAE as well. Basing my business in the UAE was a smart business move due to the easy set-up and lack of taxes. Moreover, setting up in the Middle East felt like a natural next step.
The region is at an exciting intersection of cultural storytelling, digital influence, and commerce, making it a powerful space for marketing innovation. With Marketing in Color, my mission has always been to create authentic, inclusive, and data-driven influencer campaigns, and the Middle East’s dynamic creator landscape presented an opportunity to do just that.
Getting started wasn’t without its challenges—navigating a new market, understanding consumer behaviors, and building relationships. But the key has been listening, adapting, and bringing something fresh to the table. I’ve found that brands here are eager for culturally nuanced, impact-driven influencer strategies, which is exactly what we specialize in.
What’s your business and what’s unique about it?
At Marketing in Color we focus on diversity-first influencer marketing operating in the UK, USA, UAE, and Africa. We don’t just run influencer campaigns; we shape conversations that resonate deeply with audiences.
What makes us different?
We blend culture, data, and storytelling to craft impactful narratives.
We champion underrepresented creators, ensuring marketing is inclusive and authentic. We have a strong global-local approach, meaning we understand regional nuances while executing at a global scale.
What motivates you?
Impact. Seeing Black and Brown creators thrive in spaces that once overlooked them. Knowing that I’m helping brands speak to audiences in a way that’s meaningful, rather than just transactional. And, of course, breaking barriers for the next generation of women of color in marketing—it’s bigger than me.
2 Corinthians 5:7 – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” This verse is a powerful reminder about trusting in God’s plan, even when the path ahead is uncertain. It means living with confidence in what we cannot yet see, rather than relying solely on what is visible or tangible.
For an entrepreneur, founder, or dream-chaser, this is especially relevant. Building something new—whether a business, a movement, or a vision—often requires stepping into the unknown. You won’t always have all the answers, the roadmap may not be clear, and obstacles will come, but faith keeps you moving forward. It’s about believing in your purpose, your calling, and God’s guidance, even when challenges make it tempting to doubt.
In business, as in life, success isn’t just about what’s immediately in front of you—it’s about having the faith to persist, adapt, and trust that what you’re working toward will come to fruition. – Halima
What strategies have helped you succeed and grow your business in the UAE/Middle East?
- Building Relationships – Success here is relationship-driven, so I prioritize genuine connections with brands, creators, and agencies.
- Understanding Cultural Nuances – The Middle East isn’t one-size-fits-all. Each market has unique consumer behaviors, languages, and digital trends, so a hyper-localized approach is key.
- Being Data-Led – We combine cultural insights with data-backed strategies to drive measurable impact for brands.
- Investing in Community – The best marketing doesn’t just sell; it builds communities that trust and engage with a brand long-term.
From one founder to another, please share some words of encouragement, wisdom, inspiration for a founder who’s just starting out or who’s afraid to start.
Start before you’re ready. Clarity comes from action, not overthinking.
You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin—just start, refine as you go, and trust that you’ll learn along the way. Surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you, and remember: nobody has your unique vision, voice, or perspective—that’s your superpower.
What can people look forward to from you in 2025?
- Bigger brand collaborations with global beauty, fashion, and lifestyle brands
- Expanding “The Color is Melanin”—our community for women of color globally is growing with trailblazing seminars and keynote speakers each quarter and our mentorship program that has just launched.
- Deeper impact across the Middle East & Africa, bridging brands with authentic voices.

JOY KOKOMMA FRANCIS

My name is Joy Kokomma Francis from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. I’ve lived in the UAE for about six years.
What inspired you to start your business in the Middle East, and what was your journey like getting started?
When I moved to the Middle East in 2019, I initially started selling African foodstuffs. However, in 2020, I lost everything due to a Nigerian export ban and the impact of COVID-19. I then shifted to selling wigs sourced from the Asian region.
I’ve always been passionate about well-styled hair—it boosts my confidence. But finding quality hairstyling in Dubai was difficult. In 2022, I traveled to Lagos to train as a professional hairstylist, as Lagos is known for its top-tier styling. I also saw a gap in the market for high-quality hair.
That’s when I decided to launch Kokoslayz, offering premium hair extensions and expert installations. Despite the challenges, my passion turned into a thriving business.
“Faith it till you make it. Everything I’ve built started with faith, hard work, and consistency—and I believe that with God, nothing is impossible!” – Joy Kokomma Francis
What’s your business and what’s unique about it?
My business, Kokoslayz, is a premium hair brand in Dubai that offers high-quality wigs and expert hair installations. What makes us unique is our commitment to top-tier hair quality and flawless styling—something that was lacking in the market.
We prioritize authenticity, ensuring our hair is sourced from the best suppliers. With professional training from Lagos, I bring precision and expertise to every installation, giving clients a natural, long-lasting look. Kokoslayz is not just about selling hair; it’s about transforming confidence with every install.
We set ourselves apart through innovative styling techniques and high-quality hair sourced from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Burma.
What motivates you?
I’m passionate about hair and beauty, helping women feel stunning in their wigs.
Through Kokoslayz Academy, I empower aspiring hairstylists and entrepreneurs, guiding them to avoid costly mistakes when starting a business abroad.
With my podcast, KokoUnscripted, I share real, unfiltered insights on hairstyling, fashion, and my faith in God. My goal is to inspire start-ups and young entrepreneurs through my journey.
Above all, my faith in God drives me. It shapes my business and fuels my big dreams.
What strategies have helped you succeed and grow your business in the UAE/Middle East?
What has helped me the most is my unwavering faith in God, which keeps me grounded and driven.
I also focus on continuous learning to improve my skills and offer high-quality installations that last from two weeks to a month.
Social media, especially Instagram, and client referrals have also played a huge role in growing my business.
From one business owner to another, please share some words of encouragement, wisdom, inspiration for a business owner, who’s just starting out or who’s afraid to start.
Start where you are with what you have. You don’t need to have everything figured out. Challenges will come, but they are part of the journey. Learn, adapt, and keep moving forward.
